“I knew I wanted to get my book published, but knew almost nothing about formatting, publishing and marketing it. Fortunately Kevin Rhoades knew all this and was more helpful than I had imagined. I will be asking him to help me with my next book.”

“One of my goals in 2011 was to publish the John Nosler Going Ballistic book as an e-book. To that end, I contacted friend Kevin Rhoades. Kevin started the project right away and was very patient with me as I was in and out of the country for hunting trips. Kevin formatted the JNGB book for all the major e-readers and helped me get the book up and ready to download. I highly recommend Kevin Rhoades and his company.”

“You really ought to write a book.”

That’s something people had been telling me off and on after I retired from a previous management career and reinvented myself as a freelance outdoor writer. Writing a book, I found, is a big project. When you’re used to writing 700 word newspaper columns, it’s a big leap to think in terms of putting 55,000 words together.

Once you put those 55,000 words together, it’s another big leap to turn all those computer files into an actual book. Here’s where Kevin Rhoades and Five Valleys Press came to my side to make that next big step.

Kevin patiently and thoroughly explained the publishing process and made valuable suggestions in things I needed to do to edit and polish my manuscript. Once the pieces of the puzzle came together, I turned my manuscript and artwork over to Kevin to do his magic.

During the book design process, Kevin kept me in the loop at all times, soliciting feedback on design details, such as fonts, placement of artwork and similar details, frequently sending sample chapters and printed galleys. Once we had that completed he arranged a sample printing, again working closely with me in further tweaking of the final product. That final product included listing with Amazon.com and producing a Kindle format of the book.

Since the publication of my book, Sweeter than Candy – a Hunter’s Journal, Kevin has stayed in contact, giving me tips and reminders on marketing and selling my book.

I am extremely pleased in how our project turned out. The book is well designed and purchasers have commented that they find it easy to read. In addition, I was impressed by how quickly Kevin completed the book design and made it ready for production. Producing a book isn’t necessarily inexpensive, but at the end there were no surprises. It came in on time and within budget.

If and when I am ready to publish another book (and people are already asking me about that), I will be pleased to again work with Kevin and Five Valleys Press.

“I have worked with Kevin Rhoades on three book projects in which I was involved as the editor or author. He is skilled, hardworking, charges reasonable prices, and in all senses a pleasure to work with. Perhaps the highest praise I can offer is to say that I intend to turn to him for another book project I currently have under way.”

“One word to describe the relationship with Kevin Rhoades was confidence in his work. Another was responsibility of follow-through when he took the job and promised a good outcome. Kevin is easy to work with by mail or phone, the book was well done, and the layout excellent. My book was well received with lots of favorable comments in large part due to excellent formatting.”

“Kevin Rhoades did a great job of shepherding my book Billy Barnstorm – The Birch Lake Bomber to print – well beyond what I’ve experienced with my seven other published books. And he has continued to promote the book, has converted it to e-book format and in all ways has provided wonderful expertise and service.  Highly recommended.”

“An accomplished writer and photographer in his own right, Kevin is also a gifted graphic designer.  In 1992 I hired him to design my first book, A Chukar Hunter’s Companion and his work on that project contributed mightily to its success.  I am now working on my second book and hope he will design it as well.”
